Last year on New Years Eve I wrote a post called “Highlights and Resolutions”. I took some time today and read through it. In it I shared my highlights from 2008 and my goals for 2009.
It’s always important to revisit goals. I’ve learned one thing through reading the Bible in 90 days… If you don’t set goals and you don’t write it down on paper you are not going to get it done.
So.. here’s a little review from 2009 and what I’m hopeful for in 2010.
There were a ton of highlights from 2009:
In January we took our youth team to NYC for a conference. New York is the greatest city on the planet. It was fascinating to be there!
One great highlight was being invited to a church planters/innovation roundtable in Florida in February. It was great to hear from guys like Mark Batterson and Troy Gramling and it was cool to hear what is happening in the church in North America. There were some great thinkers at the event. It was also great to see Aaron and Rachel on the same trip and spend some time with them in Ft. Lauderdale.
In July we had Ava’s first birthday party with over 60 friends and family. It was crazy.
In July I had the opportunity to speak at Nanoose Bay Camp in BC. It was a great experience and probably the best camp ever. The combination of Jesus and a lot of sports is probably the greatest thing for any sports-lover.
Heather and I hit a deer on the way to another camp I was speaking at on Manitoulin Island. Props to the OPP officer who drove us to the camp over an hour away from the accident. Oh.. and God bless insurance.
EMG Summer Fiesta was off the hook! It was always a dream to start a summer camp. Especially for a lot of our crew who haven’t grown up in the church and can’t afford other camps. It was cool to see what happened in our second annual camp!
A great highlight from this year was watching the Bills play at Ralph Wilson this September. I definitely think that this could be a reoccurring event.
The greatest highlight and at the same time the most difficult thing from 2009 was the transition out of EMG. At the beginning of 2009 we were feeling that there was changes in our future. At the same time it was always a dream of mine from day one to replace myself with a leader from within our leaders at EMG. It’s been amazing to look back at see how things have unfolded this year and we are pumped that Sarah and Roberto have taken over.
A huge highlight is being able to function in what we feel are our giftings. We are thankful for a church that trusts us and has even taken risks to keep us around! We are excited to put our hand to some new things and overwhelmed by the potential 2010 brings.
Looking back at my 2009 goals, there are some things that were accomplished and some things that fell short. I was able to read through the bible once, read about 35-40 books, run the half marathon on Mothers Day (there is a story why I only ran half), travel, see Ava walk and say her first words. There are plenty of things that I still want to accomplish.
This year I’m hoping to run a couple races, work on getting a significant portion of our debt paid off, write more, and read at least 40 books. We are pumped to be having a baby boy in May. Two munchkins will bring change!
We’re also hoping to see lots developed through our role at Royal View. We’re believing to see Saturday nights grow and expand and we have faith that the Gospel will continue to take root in our community.
So there is both wonder and anticipation at what the new year will bring.
Looking forward to the year ahead! Welcome 2010.
